The International Conference on Medical Science Technology is back!!! Our second edition of the conference, ICMST 2018 will be held on the 14th and 15th November 2018 at Tenera Hotel, Bangi, Malaysia. We welcome and hope to see all of you there!!
The conference will feature globally renowned speakers and delegates from academia, research centers and industry to share insights and disseminate research findings specifically related to medical science technology and environmental health. The conference will provide an international platform for the exchange of knowledge and expertise in relevant fields and promote exploration of potential collaboration for future research. PROFESSOR DR. MAURICE HALLETT
Neutrophil Signalling Group, School of Medicine,

Professor Dr. Maurice is currently Emeritus Professor of Experimental Cell Biology / Cellular Pharmacology at Cardiff University. He obtained his first degree (BSc Pharmacology) from the University College London (UCL) followed by a PhD Degree from the Department of Pharmacology, also from UCL, undertaking a project on Ca2+ in mast cell secretion. He specialises in developing and using techniques and approaches which allow cellular and subcellular events to be visualised and measured at the individual cell level. His research has focused on understanding the complex and dynamic behaviour of neutrophils (immune white blood cells) and established the Neutrophil Signalling Group within Cardiff University Medical School which he has lead for over 20 year now. The group has built up the equipment and expertise necessary for measurement, manipulation and imaging chemical changes in individual living neutrophils, and solved many of the difficult problems which arise when working with these cells. His research team has received funding from the Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Arthritis and Research Campaign (ARC), British Heart Foundation (BHF), National Research Network, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and others. He has served as the honorary secretary of the Royal Microscopical Society Committee (Cell Biology) and also the Cell Biology Theme committee of the Biochemical Society.
MR. TOM HUGHES

Tom Hughes is a senior scientist and the Malaysian Project Coordinator at EcoHealth Alliance, a global environmental health nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting wildlife and public health from the emergence of diseases. Tom received his Bachelor of Science in Development Studies and Natural Resources from the University of East Anglia and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Tom established the Deep Forest Project in Sabah, a study of the effects of land use change on viral diversity, set up the Wildlife Health Unit and the Wildlife Health, Genetic and Forensic Laboratory with Sabah Wildlife Department and Danau Girang Field Centre, and works closely with partners from the Ministry of Health, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, the Department of Veterinary Services, Sabah Wildlife Department and local universities to develop personnel and laboratory capacity and establish sustainable disease surveillance systems. His work has been featured on The National Geographic Channel, BBC Newshour, and in several publications including The Independent, The Boston Globe, Newsweek and The Daily Telegraph.
PROF. DR. RUKMAN AWANG HAMAT

Dr. Rukman Awang Hamat, a Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Universiti Putra Malaysia obtained his MBBS degree from University of Malaya in 1996 and 10 years later pursued his Doctor of Pathology (Medical Microbiology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He has been with Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM for 15 years and is currently teaching Medical Microbiology/Parasitology courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is also the Head of Department from 2013 until Feb 2017. His primary research areas of interest include parasitic infections in immunocompromised hosts and children, opportunistic protozoan, hostparasite relationships, molecular epidemiology, microbial pathogenesis, antimicrobial resistance, toxin/antitoxin systems, stem cells and vaccine-preventable diseases. He has been involved in more than 15 research projects as Principal Investigators and Co-researchers, supervised and co-supervised more than 40 Masters and PhD students, and has published more than 200 publications (80 high impact journals, 6 books, 9 chapters in books, 100 proceedings and posters). As a Senior Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, he is currently doing his consultation work in Serdang Hospital. He is one of the editorial members of the Journal of Microbiology and Modern Techniques and The International Arabic Journal of Antimicrobial Agents.
ASSOC. PROF. DR. MD AZMAN SEENI MOHAMED

Dr. Azman Seeni is an Associate Professor in Molecular Toxico-Pathology at Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia. He obtained his Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and Bachelor of Applied Science (Biotechnology) from Universiti Sains Malaysia, followed by a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences (Pathology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and subsequently a PhD from Nagoya City University, Japan in Molecular Toxico-Pathology. He has over 14 years experience in Cancer Research, published numerous papers in High Impact Factor journals and has supervised more than 20 postgraduate students in cancer research and biomaterial products. Dr. Azman has won many local and international prestigious awards such as the American Association Cancer Research Travel Grant Award 2009, Double Gold Award at the British Invention Show 2011 and obtained one patent on chemopreventive agent. Recently, he has focused his research work on cancer chemoprevention agent derived from natural flora and fauna.
DR. MUHAMMAD AMIR KAMALUDDIN

Dr. Muhammad Amir Kamaluddin graduated in Medicine (MBChB) from the University of Alexandria, Egypt in 1980. He then pursued Master of Science (Occupational Medicine) at the National University of Singapore (1989-90) followed by Masters of Public Health (Epidemiology & Biostatistics) Boston University School of Public Health, USA (1994). Dr. Muhammad Amir had since served 37 years in the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia where he last headed the Environmental Health Research Centre (EHRC), Institute for Medical Research (IMR). He was gazetted as Pakar Perubatan Kesihatan Awam by MOH, a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), United Kingdom and is the Subject Consultant in Health Impact Assessment registered with the Department of Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Malaysia.

Dr. Arni Talib is presently the Head of Pathology Department, Hospital Kuala Lumpur and also heading the National Pathology Services (Perkhidmatan Patologi Kebangsaan) at the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. She obtained her medical degree from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1986 and subsequently pursued specialization in Pathology also from UKM receiving her Master’s in 1994.

Dato’ Dr. Faraizah received her medical training at the University Science Malaysia in Penang and obtained her post graduate degree in Haematology/Pathology from University of London and her subspeciality training in Transfusion in UK. She has served in multiple committees with the Ministry of Health in Malaysia and has been actively involved in various international initiatives. She is the past president of the Haemophilia Society Malaysia and past vice president of the Malaysia Blood Transfusion Society. She is also a member of the College of Pathologist, Academy of Medicine Malaysia, ISTH, ISBT and WFH.
ASSOC. PROF. DR. FIRDAUS HARIRI
Maxillofacial Surgeon & Humanitarian

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Firdaus Hariri is a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon in University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and Department of Oro-Maxillofacial Surgical and Medical Science, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya. He obtained both his dental and medical degrees from University of Malaya (UM) and had his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at Queen Mary Hospital and Prince Philip Dental Hospital, The University of Hong Kong. He later had his craniofacial attachments at various established craniofacial centres in the United Kingdom and France. In addition to routine maxillofacial surgical practices such as orthognathic surgery, trauma and oral implantology, his subspecialty and research interests are focused on pediatric craniofacial and reconstructive surgery, distraction osteogenesis, bone regeneration for oral rehabilitation and the application of 3D printing in surgical planning. He is currently the coordinator for the multidisciplinary craniofacial clinic in UMMC, the team leader for Oro-Craniomaxillofacial Research and Surgical (OCReS) group at the Faculty of Dentistry UM, subspecialty coordinator for the Fellowship in Advanced Craniomaxillofacial Surgery UM as well as the editor-in-chief for Journal of Oro-Craniomaxillofacial Research and Surgery.
DR. ROHANI JAHIS

Dr. Rohani Jahis obtained her medical doctor degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1990. She subsequently pursued her specialist degree in Public Health also from UKM graduating in 2001. Dr. Rohani is presently the Head of Zoonosis Sector, Disease Control Division, Ministry of Health, Malaysia. As a public health specialist, she has previously served in the Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) Control Unit, Food Water Borne Disease (FWBD) Control Sector and Communicable Disease Surveillance Section. Dr. Rohani has vastly contributed in providing professional input in the preparation of technical papers, most recently in the module development of Risk Assessment for Measles and Undertaking Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIA) and Guidelines on Management of Diphtheria Case and Ourbreak as well the development of the Congenital Rubella Syndrome surveillance.
PROF. DR. SHARIFA EZAT WAN PUTEH

Prof. Dr. Sharifa Ezat, currently the Deputy Dean (Relations & Generations) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC) is a trained Medical Doctor also from UKM. She obtained her Masters in Public Health (Hospital and Health Management) and PhD in Public Health-Health economics from the United Nations University-International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH). Her main interests are in areas of health inequality and health economics. She is also a coding and casemix consultant with UNU-IIGH and International Training Centre and Clinical Coding UKM to conduct research & capacity building on Accessibility, Efficiency and Quality of Care in Health System to support casemix implementation in developing country. She is currently the assistant editor for the Malaysian Journal of Public Health and reviewer of several local and international journals, and has published numerous papers and books on cost effectiveness of vaccination against cervical cancer. Prof. Sharifa is a member of the Health Economics Association Malaysia, the Malaysian Public Health Physicians Association, MySPOR (Malaysian Pharmacoeconomics and Outcome Research Group) and One Health with the Global Health Institute.

Prof. Dr Abdul Manan Mat Jais, fourth in a family of seven siblings was born on 8 March 1954 in Tanah Merah Kelantan to Mat Jais Talib and Noranua Awang from Pahang. He was brought back and raised in Pahang, and spent most of his adventurous explorative young age in sea facing Beserah some 12 kilometers from Kuantan. He is married to Shakinah Arshad on 2 August 1982, and bless with 2 daughters and 3 sons. He is a dedicated, passionate, ambitious and hard-at-work where he has started research on biology and biomedical properties of Haruan Channa striatus in 1985. Ever since, he is the leader, and the founder of Haruan Research Group (HRG) based at Universiti Putra Malaysia. Academically, he is a neurophysiologist, and obtained his Ph.D from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom in 1984, and has served as a Professor and Head of Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. Recently, Prof. Dr. Abdul Manan was appointed as UniKL MESTECH’s industrial advisory board following his retirement from UPM.
DR. MUHAMMAD HAMDI MAHMOOD

Dr. Muhammad Hamdi Mahmood obtained his Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1999 and a Master’s degree in Medical Science from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2003. Following a postgraduate diploma from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2006, he then obtained his PhD from the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom in 2011 where he has served as the President of the Malaysian Student Society Norwich, United Kingdom. Dr. Hamdi is currently a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, UNIMAS since July 2012 and is also a certified Good Clinical Practice laboratorian. Dr. Hamdi is actively working towards the establishment of the biomedical science profession and has been involved in the working committee for Allied Health Professions Act (Biomedical/Clinical Scientist) under the Allied Health Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia. He is a committee member for the Malaysian Biomedical Science Society (MyBiomed), member of the Malaysian Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences (MIMLS) and a Licentiate of Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS), United Kingdom.
DR. ZULHAINAN HAMZAH

Dr. Zulhainan Hamzah earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Tropical Medicine (Parasitology and Medical Entomology) from Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University in 2007; Diploma in Applied Parasitology & Entomology from Institute for Medical Research (IMR) in 1999 and Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from University of Malaya in 1993. He was also trained in “Leadership Course in Biosecurity / Biosafety Planning and Implementation” at Defense Institute for Medical Operations (DIMO), San Antonio, Texas, United States in 2011. He began his carreer as Clinical Scientist (Microbiologist) at the Pathology Department, Hospital Kuala Krai, Kelantan in 1993 and have also been attached to other government hospitals including IMR. He then joined Ipoh Public Health Laboratory, MOH after earning his PhD in 2007. He joined NPHL in 2013 and now is the Head Section of Parasitology & Mycology at National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH). He is currently one of NPHL Deputy Quality Manager for MS ISO 15189:2014, Proficiency Testing Lead Auditor for MS ISO/IEC 17043:2010 and a trained assessor by the Department of Standard Malaysia (DSM) for Skim Akreditasi Makmal Malaysia (SAMM). His current research interest is public health issues related to malaria in supporting the National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan.
